Words and Music
New EP 2011

"Words and Music" is Mat's new EP. Mat had planned to release a full album by the end of 2011 but the rigours of daily life have taken it's toll on Mat's studio time.

The EP features new tracks and some tracks recorded in Mat's previous guise as Citrus.

The EP will be available from Mat at local gigs - starting with Slough on October 8th - and also from iTunes soon.

The Year Fades
Charity Christmas Single 2010

"It was on a whim, really", said Mat, in reference to donating the single's proceeds to Great Ormond Street Hospital. "The single was originally planned as a CD Christmas card for my friends and family and it all escalated from there. When I thought about doing it for charity, Great Ormond Street jumped straight to me because I wouldn't like to be in hospital as a child at Christmas time - I hope whatever money we raise can help speed up their recovery or pay to make their time as comfortable as possible".

"The Year Fades" was recorded at May-B studios, Pershore, and is Mat's first full release on iTunes but he is no stranger to recording; "The Year Fades" is his fourth release since "A Cynical Miracle" in 2000. Two further albums followed, with the fourth expected some time in 2011. He will be performing some acoustic dates in the New Year with a view to releasing his as yet untitled fourth album at some point during the summer. "The Year Fades" is available to download from iTunes now -

Mat's Recent History

Mat has recorded three albums to date, A Cynical Miracle in 2000, Ten Paces Behind in 2003 and September's Past in 2008. Mat is working on his as yet untitled fourth album to be released in 2010.

A Cynical Miracle was a homemade affair; the songs written mostly with poet Brenda Read-Brown but also with songwriter and studio engineer Richard Wood. With live drum tracks recorded at a local studio, Mat and Richard added the rest of the parts in Mat's living room near Cheltenham.

Mat moved to Lincoln and recorded 2003's Ten Paces Behind, which featured looped drums as opposed to live recordings. Mat continued to write with Brenda Read-Brown and Richard Wood co-wrote "In My Mind". A five year wait and Mat decides his third album, September's Past, will be a studio based affair resulting in a more complete album with better production values. Mat took over writing duties almost entirely.

Mat made his comeback from 3 years away at this year's Wychwood Festival with a short but well recieved set featuring two of the three tracks which would eventually appear on The Year Fades CD single - click here to view this on YouTube.

That brings us to the tail end of 2010 with writing for the as yet untitled fourth album underway and the release of The Year Fades - watch this space for more.
